Hello sports fans, long time no see the words I’ve written down on your phone. I’m back for probably 1-2 posts before I leave again for 6 months, and I’m still playing AdMech – for now.

On the 18th of September, I attended the Risky Rollers Team tournament 2026 – 40k Teams GT. An 8-player 5 round 2-day event hosted at The Gaming Arena in Coburg North, Melbourne. This would be my second time attending Risky Rollers 8-player teams’ event and this time I was not going to get shitfaced and spend the whole of the next day vomiting after getting food poisoning from Korean BBQ, I was going to have fun with my friends.

This year, I was playing with friends I have met across Ballarat, Geelong, and Melbourne.

Our team: HAMS presents – Big Wenis and the list checkers

  • Dave – “Best Sports” – Thousand Sons
  • Lachlan – “The face of Ratcon” – Votann
  • Liam – “Rataclysm runner up” – CSM
  • Michael – “You know what was written here but I changed it out of respect” – Dark Angels
  • Mitchell – “Matrix king (changed this after the event)” – Emperor’s Children
  • Nic – “Rataclysm winner” – Custodes
  • Ryan – “Team Australia criticiser” – Ad Mech
  • Sam – “Played Khorne Daemons before it was cool” – Daemons

Our gameplan was I don’t care really; I just like going to tournaments with my friends. I would be playing Disruption.

I’ve been dead set on Data-Psalm Conclave/Lords of the Forge (LOTF) so far in 11th edition. I find the combination of detachments incredibly enjoyable to play. Being able to stay in Conqueror for the entirety of the game gives great play for Disruption utilizing Servitors to score primary and killing with Electro-Priests & Kataphrons. However, it just didn’t feel right.

My only other option for Disruption was Luminen Auto-Choir. There were trade-offs with this change, I didn’t necessarily have to lose LOTF, but I haven’t cooked enough with 3 1-DP detachments yet. Opening up another 2-DP detachment made list building significantly easier and, in the end, I decided to go with Cohort Cybernetica.

My list

  • Cawl
  • Thulia
  • Tech-Priest Enginseer: Necromechanic
  • Cybernetica Datasmith – Leading 4 Kastelans
  • Tech-Priest Dominus – Leading 10 Fulgurite Electro-Priests
  • 2×10 Skitarii Rangers
  • Skorpius Dunerider
  • 2×5 Corpuscarii Electro-Priests
  • Onager Dunecrawler – Phosphor
  • 2×9 Servitor Battleclade
  • 2x Skorpius Disintegrator

It’s a gunline, with some bots and Priests.

The Fulgurites are deceptively tanky, and giving them advance & charge extends their threat range significantly. Combined with a turn of Robots moving 11″ with +1 to charge this list can sit back and outgun most armies while blanking damage with Necromechanic + FNP and threaten aggressive charges.

Utilizing Servitors to secure Disruption scoring and keeping Robots/Priests as significant heroic threats ensures your opponents are almost always trading down. Thulia + Strats lets you double doctrine two tanks a turn giving flexibility for Doctrine choice given Servitors’ advancing & actioning + Priest/Kastelan WS boons.

Overall, it’s a pretty cute list with opportunities for decision making and flexibility into different match ups. Ultimately, it’s a blunting list. I’ll score my points, so will you. Enjoy the 10’s losers.

I’m still shit at taking photos.

Round 1 – Ben’s Tyranids

Disruption vs. Take and Hold

Ben’s List (Synaptic Nexus and Talons of the Norn Queen): Norns and stuff

Our first round was into the Sushi crew, a bunch of local Melbourne cuties and their mum.

I don’t really remember anything about this, I was hungover. Had too many beers at work drinks the day before.

Ben was awesome, lovely dude, rolled lots of 4+ invulns on Norns I guess.

We both maxed primary, but I didn’t prioritise secondary scoring enough, something that would continue for me throughout the tournament. Normally when I play disruption I have more chaff/scoring pieces which has two benefits. It allows me to score secondaries and primary – duh – and screen my damage pieces so I can continue doing damage after I’ve scored and can keep playing the game.

This list put me in an awkward spot with that, I think. I don’t know. A single unit of Pteraxii would have gone a long way in securing an extra diff point each game across the weekend. I did only play this list once before the event so, and I hadn’t played either detachment before in 11th. I’ll keep coping, thank you.

I had Ben in my Matrix as a 16 and I brought back an 8 lol. Our team went up 89-71, a small teams win.

Thanks for the game Ben! Sorry for being late.

Round 2 – Euan’s Death guard

Disruption vs. Priority assets

Euan’s List (Champions of Contagion, Paragons of Putrescence): 1k points of Deathshroud, Morty, DP, Spawn, Typhus + 20 poxies – 8 units total or something

I only took photos of two games at this event because I kept forgetting. I don’t know if you can tell, but I’m pretty shit at this whole blogging thing. Enjoy this photo of my day 2 breakfast instead.

My round 2 was into Euan, a real cutie and DG enthusiast. His army was really pretty, it’s a shame you have to look at my breakfast instead.

I think Euan went first, I don’t remember. But he gave me Mortarion round 1 to take some shots at, and I reduced him down to like 4 wounds or something, Idk.

I killed him round 2 and successfully screened out most of Euan’s 6″ deepstrikes with the DST. It really wasn’t intentional, the spots he had to go in were super toit, but the two best places a single Terminator jusssst didn’t fit, lol.

I slowed down the Terms with my Corpuscarii and slowly moved up the board, using my Kastelan’s turn 1 to force Euans army out before the DST dropped in.

My matrix was a 12 and it was a 12-8 in the end, what a time to be alive. Thanks for the game Euan, it was awesome.

Our team won the round 103-57.

Round 3 – Matthew’s Eldar

Disruption vs. Disruption

Matthew’s List (Dire avengers): Dire avengers and that big guy Avatar

I was pretty done by this point. I was really tired from being hungover all day and it takes too much thinking to play against Eldar.

I just ran towards him and kinda hoped to table him. I realized after the game we played the primary a bit wrong but I don’t think it would have made much of a difference.

Matthew was awesome, we had some good chats and fun times playing toys.

It ended up being a 12-8 his way, our team won the round 106-54.

Round 4 – Lochie’s Dark angels

Disruption vs. Recon

Lochie’s List (Whatever the meta bullshit is): you know what it is

Round 4 was into ‘La Bussi’ – or team Victoria, the team that represents our state at competitive events, and the only team for which a player received a yellow card at this event.

This game was fine, Disruption into Recon is usually close to a 10 no matter what as it’s easy for both players to max primary as long as you don’t over extend too much.

Lochie whiffed a few activations and I was in a good position to go up maybe 1-2 diff points. There was a turn where I drew Bring it Down and Burden maybe, but my only BiD play was into the Lion. I mistakenly thought I could get it from a Land Speeder, not remembering the 10+ Wound caveat – I’ve played against Land Speeders once before.

After my opponent spent most of my movement phase trying to talk me out of my play for going for the Lion, I settled on killing the speeder for BiD and consolidating my position, which I verbally stated and my opponent said ‘yep’.

After I killed the Land Speeder, I went to enter my score for BiD and realized I wouldn’t score it, my opponent said ‘yep’.

It was a 10-10.

Lochie was a great guy, we had a fun chat and a really chill game. Thanks mate!

Our team went down 111-49. It was good seeing our state team get some solid wins again after struggling for a few months.

Round 5 – Wade’s Tyranids

Disruption vs. Priority assets

Wade’s List (Assimilation Swarm and Talons of the Norn Queen): 2 Norn’s, bunch of stuff, Idk, Tyranids.

I love you Wade, you’re my Goat.

Anyway, I killed both of his Norns on their FNP objective in the same turn, lol.

But I stopped screening because I kept getting lost in Wade’s eyes, so he was able to Deepstrike the Red Terror onto my home point for 10 points turn 5 lol.

It was a 12-8, we drew the round 75-85.

It was great spending time playing teams with friends. We have a really good group and I’m really happy to have found people who I’m proud to say are my friends.

I only wrote this because Aaron made me.

Thanks for reading xoxo

  1. Greetings Ryan,

A note on preparation. Perhaps a couple of waters in between your beers prior to a tour amen weekend, being late is not kind. You might even consider a buddy system at work events to help you in this endeavour.

    Kind Regards,

    Concerned work friend

    1. I don’t think it would have affected my diff scores too much, definitely wouldn’t have changed the round results.
